  • Leader In Me

    Leader In Me

Ormsby School implements The Leader in Me program.  This leadership model is based on Stephen Covey’s The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. The Leader in Me life principles are integrated into our school’s core curriculum and everyday language.

Ormsby School has achieved positive results through this program. Students meet in Family Groupings monthly to learn about the 7 Habits.

    • Students develop skills and self-confidence to become leaders
    • Improved academic achievement
    • Raised levels of accountability and engagement in students, parents and staff

Ormsby is inspiring greatness, one child at a time.

The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People

    Habit 1: Be Proactive
I am a responsible person. I take initiative. I choose my actions, attitudes and moods. I do not blame others for my wrong actions. I do the right thing without being asked, even when no one is looking.
Habit 2: Begin with the End in Mind
I plan ahead and set goals. I do things that have meaning and make a difference. I am an important part of my classroom and contribute to my school’s mission and vision and look for ways to be a good citizen.
Habit 3: Put First Things First
I spend my time on things that are most important.  I set priorities, make a schedule, and follow my plan. I am disciplined and organized.
    Habit 4: Think Win-Win
I balance courage for getting what I want with consideration for what others want. I make deposits in others’ Emotional Bank Accounts. When conflicts arise, I look for alternatives.
Habit 5: Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood
I listen to other people’s ideas and feelings. I try to see things from their viewpoints. I listen to others without interrupting. I am confident in voicing my ideas.
    Habit 6: Synergize
I value other people’s strengths and learn from them. I get along well with others, even people who are different than me. I work well in groups. I seek out other people’s ideas to solve problems because I know that by teaming with others we can create better solutions than any one of us alone.
    Habit 7: Sharpen the Saw
I take care of my body by eating right, exercising, and getting sleep. I spend time with family and friends.

Principal's Message

Welcome to 2021-22!

Welcome to Ormsby School!

We are a diverse community of learners with programming for students from Kindergarten to grade 6. We welcome students into our regular program, Strategies and Opportunities classrooms. At Ormsby we provide a safe, caring, inclusive and supportive environment where all children can learn, grow and experience success. Students are inspired to learn and are encouraged to take risks. Through intentional, high quality learning experiences, we support Ormsby students to become confident, lifelong learners and leaders.

As we plan for the beginning of the 2021-22 school year, our focus at Ormsby will be to ensure that:

  1. The safety and well-being of students, families and staff remains our greatest priority. We will collectively share the responsibility with the Ormsby School community to follow safety protocols
  2. We’ll give families a choice whether your child attends in-person classes or online instruction at home. No matter which option you select, students will remain enrolled at Ormsby and we will work together to support your child’s learning and well-being.
  3. We are committed to high-quality teaching and learning and have a dedicated staff excited and ready to welcome your children back into the school.

I am proud to serve Ormsby School and am honoured to share this journey with your children and family. Together we will stay connected and safe. Our doors may be less accessible to parents but our hearts are not. Please do not hesitate to reach out to any of our staff throughout the year. It is more important than ever that we all find creative ways to stay involved and engaged because a strong partnership with you will make a great difference in your child’s education. We cannot do it without your help!

In partnership
